Follow the steps below to make this Origami Dove.
This origami dove is a beautiful rendition of the peace dove that is often seen with an olive branch. The dove is a popular symbol in Jewish and Christian culture so this origami is perfect for the holidays, weddings, and for religious symbolism.
There are some tricky folds to this origami dove, but if you follow the instructions carefully you should be fine.
Step 1: Start with a square piece of origami paper. If you only have regular 8.5×11 paper,
follow these instructions to make a square sheet.
Step 2: Fold in half by folding the bottom corner to the top corner.
Step 3: Fold in half again by folding the left corner to the right corner.
Step 4: Unfold.
Step 5: Fold the left corner to the top corner.
Step 6: Fold the right corner to the top corner.
Step 7: Take the left flap and fold it in half by folding its top corner to the bottom corner.
Step 8: Unfold the left flap.
Step 9: Fold the right flap in half by folding the top corner to the bottom corner.
Step 10: Unfold.
Step 11: Fold both left and right corners to meet at the center. This is to prepare for an inverted fold in Step 14.
Step 12: Unfold both.
Step 13: Open the left flap.
Step 14: Do an inverted fold by denting the corner in, using the creases you made in Step 11 to guide you.
Once the corner is inverted, fold the left corner to the top corner.Text
Step 15: To repeat on the other side, open the right flap.
Step 16: Do an inverted fold using the creases as a guide. Once the middle corner is inverted, fold the right corner to the top corner to close the flap.
Step 17: Fold the figure in half by folding the left side under the right.
Step 18: Fold the top flap diagonally down to the left.
Step 19: Turn the figure over.
Step 20: Fold the top flap diagonally down to the right.
Step 21: Here’s the tricky fold. Like you see in the picture, fold the wing diagonall down to the left. The crease must run from the upper left corner to the corner where the wing and body meets.
Step 22: Turn the figure over.
Step 23: Now we’ll repeat the fold on this side. Again, fold the crease diagonally just as you see in the picture.
Step 24: Fold the top piece (which is the tail) to the right, along the lines you created with the wing.
Step 25: Unfold the tail.
Step 26: Take the right side of the figure and open it up to the left.
Step 27: Using the creases as guide, do an inside reverse fold on the tail. Once the tail is tucked inside, fold the dove back together.
Step 28: Take the top wing and fold it diagonally left.
Step 29: Turn the figure over.
Step 30: Fold the left wing diagonally to the right.
Step 31: Now on to the head. Take a small portion of the corner at the bottom of the figure and fold it just as you see in the picture.
Step 32: Unfold again.
Step 33: Open the figure from the left side so we can invert the head.
Step 34: Now invert the the corner so it’s tucked inside the other way. Crease the left and right sides so the head remains that way.
Step 35: That’s it! Rotate the dove so the head is on top and you’re done!
